Emotional Awareness & Expression Therapy

Healing through Connection to Emotion, Meaning, and Self

If you’ve been living with chronic pain, anxiety, or emotional distress that feels stuck or unexplainable, you’re not alone. Often, symptoms that persist—despite doing all the "right" things—may be rooted in experiences your nervous system hasn’t yet had a chance to fully process or express.

Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) is a science-backed approach that helps you safely connect to the emotional truths that may be hidden beneath pain, tension, or disconnection.

This isn't about getting stuck in the past, it's about gently coming into relationship with your inner experience so your body and mind can shift out of protection and into possibility.

What Is Emotional Awareness & Expression Therapy?

EAET is based on the understanding that unprocessed emotions, especially from past relational or traumatic experiences, can get “held” in the body and show up as chronic symptoms. Through guided awareness and expression, you begin to soften the defenses that were once protective, and reconnect with what’s been held inside.

Rather than avoiding uncomfortable feelings, EAET supports you in meeting them with presence, clarity, and courage—so they no longer need to speak through pain.

EAET May Support You If You’re Navigating:

  • Chronic pain or medically unexplained symptoms

  • Longstanding anxiety, depression, or emotional numbness

  • Patterns of people-pleasing, perfectionism, or emotional suppression

  • Grief, anger, shame, or fear that feels “stuck”

  • A history of trauma, neglect, or relational wounding

  • A desire to feel more authentic, empowered, and whole

How We Work Together with EAET:

In our work together, I’ll guide you at your pace, gently and skillfully. EAET often includes:

Somatic attunement to what your body is holding

Identifying protective patterns that served you, but may no longer be needed

Naming emotional truths that were never allowed expression

Practicing safe emotional expression—often through voice, imagery, or role work

Building compassion for the younger parts of you who learned to survive in silence

The Science Behind EAET

EAET is rooted in neuroscience and emotion theory, with growing research supporting its effectiveness for:

  • Chronic pain conditions (like fibromyalgia, IBS, pelvic pain, and back pain)

  • Mood and anxiety disorders

  • Somatic symptom disorders and trauma-related conditions

It’s not a quick fix—it’s a return to the parts of you that may have been left behind, and an invitation to heal through emotional truth.

Your body and mind carry the imprint of everything you’ve lived through, and they also carry the capacity to heal. This is a space to begin again, with care and intention, and a willingness to gently listen inward. Even the smallest shift in awareness can open the door to meaningful change.
